Known as ‘Arandi kaa Tel’ in Hindi, Castor oil is a pale yellow color liquid that is extracted by pressing the castor seeds, which are also called Ricinus communis. It is anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant oil that makes it one of the most widely used ingredient in home remedies. It has been used for centuries for its therapeutic and medicinal benefits.  Most of the benefits of castor oil are derived from its high concentration of unsaturated fatty acids. A major compound found in castor oil, that is, Undecylenic acid that is effective in treating ringworms. Take two tablespoons of castor oil and four tablespoons of coconut oil and mix both. Apply this mixture on the affected area and cover with a cotton cloth. Keep it overnight for best results.

Castor oil functions as a laxative and lubricates your bowels without absorbing any moisture from the walls of your intestines. This is why it works best for relieving constipation. To soothe constipation and its associated problems, simply dilute one tablespoon castor oil with four tablespoons of water and drink it every morning. You can also mix it with fruit juice to take away the bitter taste of oil.

Reduces Joint Pain/ Arthritis

Castor oil is a natural and effective remedy for treating joint pain, tissue pain and arthritis. All you need is castor oil and a soft cotton cloth. Leave it applied for thirty minutes and wrap with a towel or shower cap. Afterwards, rinse it off with shampoo. You can also use the castor oil with two or three Vitamin E capsules in lukewarm water and massage the split strands with it. This is an effective remedy to treat split ends.

Castor Oil is soothing and cooling on your scalp. Its anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal properties will help to keep your scalp healthy and flake-free. Castor oil also has moisturizing and emollient qualities, which will make your hair soft and your scalp hydrated. How to use: mix ten to fifteen drops castor oil with two tablespoons of olive oil or any other oil of your choice. And massage it directly into the scalp. Leave it, at least for an hour for the best results and after that wash with a mild shampoo. Use this remedy once a week.

Words of Caution for Using Castor Oil

Castor oil may not be suitable to you and can cause allergy. So it is better to take a patch test on your wrist to avoid allergies. Although castor oil is too beneficial for skin, but never use it frequently on the skin of your face as it can clog pores and lead to breakouts. Pregnant women should totally avoid it. You can also consult with your doctor before using it orally or for health issues.
