Back Combed Pompadour Hairstyles
All this hairstyle needs is an expertise in back combing. If you have short hair and if you are comfortable to shave off the hair in the sides, then you are all set to make the heads turn with Back Combed Pompadour Hairstyle.
Like shown in the image, hair is present only at the centre while the hair in the sides is shaved. Back comb the hair at the centre till you achieve a desirable height, clear the bumps on the surface and you are almost done.
Apply a hair gel or hairspray of medium strength to keep the hairstyle in place for a longer time.
Look at the image for a clear understanding. If you are not comfortable shaving off the sides, flatten the sides to make the pompadour centre of attraction.
Long Hair Pompadour Hairstyles
Pompadour Hairstyle was originally tried on long hair. But with time it became one of the favorite hairstyles for short hair. Lets us now look at Pompadour hairstyle for women with long hair.
You might wonder pompadour hairstyle is similar to pouf. But it’s actually not! It might resemble a pouf but a pompadour is adjusted at a larger height unlike a pouf which is a small puff.
For this hairstyle, you might need a hairclip for pouf. Separate the section of hair from the forehead, place the hair clip, make a pouf ahead of the clip and rest the hair on the clip. You will have a pouf that you created ahead of the clip along with the pouf that the hair clip creates. This adds to the climax of the pompadour hairstyle. Tie the rest of the hair into a high ponytail, close to where the pouf ends.
For a cleaner look, cover the elastic by wrapping a piece of hair from the ponytail around it and you are done. Comb the sides very neatly to enhance the visibility of the pompadour hairstyle.
Pompadour Hairstyle With Sleek Half Up Do
Choose this hairstyle for a wedding paired up with beautiful dress. You are sure to make the heads turn. This hairstyle is the best option for women with short hair, though women with long hair also can try this out.
Here we go.
Grab the upper portion of hair from the forehead and pin it so that it doesn’t get out of the way.
Now grab the hair from both sides of your head that is close to the ears and pull it back together and tie it tightly using elastic. Use the hair spray to manage the flyways.
Release the upper portion of hair from the forehead. Starting from behind, using a teasing comb, tease the hair layer by layer to create a pompadour.
Brush the upper later of hair for a cleaner look and once you have achieved the desirable height and volume of pompadour, slide a bobby pin in place and secure the pompadour.
Keep the sides flat to enhance the look of volume at the top. Spray a medium strength hairspray to secure the shape of pompadour and to keep the flyways in place.
Women with bangs might find it hard to pull of this look.
Pompadour With A 3D Effect
This kind of pompadour is a favorite hairstyle for runway models. I have seen several models and actress flaunting 3D Pompadour hairstyle several times, and I must say it is awesome.
Here is how you can recreate it.
Grab the section of hair from the forehead. Make sure the hair you consider is thick enough to create a 3D effect. Also this hair should not be too long.
Grab a curler and curl this hair loosely away from your face. Now, from one side, roll the hair in to the shape as shown in the image. As you roll, secure the shape using as many bobby pins as you would need. Also, before rolling the hair, grab the whole section of hair into one side and do the rolling from the same side.
Hair spray is extremely important for this hairstyle to secure the shape of the pompadour.
If you have hair left, grab it tightly and secure it into a ponytail. You can also make a bun. The sides should be clean and flat.
This hair style will have a 3D effect from one side and from the other side it looks messy because of the roll we have made but that’s the beauty of this pompadour.
Pompadour Hairstyles with Curls
Like shown in the image, you don’t have to shave your sides to recreate this look. You can simply grab the rest of the hair tightly and secure it into a bun or a ponytail.
This variation of pompadour is close to the previously explained hairstyle, except that it is not fully curled.
Grab the section of hair from the forehead till the crown. For this pompadour, the section of hair you grab should be short. It is fine if the hair is long at the back. But at the forehead it should be short.
Using a curler, curl the hair, like shown in the image. Only the ends of the hair should be curled towards the centre.
After you have successfully recreated the pompadour, tightly grab the rest of the hair. The sides should be extremely flat. Adjust the flyways using a strong hair spray and you are done.
Here is a general advice given by hair stylists who are experts in recreating several kinds of pompadours.
- Always use a hairspray or hair gel after recreating a pompadour. This hairstyle does not have a strong base. So there is a chance of it falling apart very soon.
- Use heat protection sprays to protect your hair while using heat instruments.
- Pompadour hairstyle with shaved sides is better than the long hair.
